April 2007
Bosham hosted a call change competition on
Saturday 14th April on behalf of Western Division SCACR and
seven teams gave up a warm, sunny spring day to enter. Pagham
gave a bravura performance to win the competition, which was
most ably judged by Richard Verrall. Bosham entered two
bands, coming second in the main category and third in the
novice.
Thanks to all who participated and a special thank
you to the
ladies who organised the excellent buffet that ran throughout
the afternoon.

Many thanks to
Rosemary and Jeremy Grindle who have kindly donated carpeting for
the ringing chamber, thus replacing the ancient remnants that we
have been accustomed to and for arranging for it to be fitted. It is an
immense improvement, verging on the luxurious.

December 2006
A new set of muffles has been made by Wilf Grove. Secured with
velcro rather
than buckles they are much easier to fit than their predecessors
and came in a beautifully embroidered bag

November 2006
Work on the bells has been completed and normal ringing resumed
on Thursday 16th November.
Nicholson Engineering's very capable bell hanger Mark supervised
the work whilst Dave, our steeple keeper and ringing master Don
provided additional labour at the dismantling and re hanging
stages.
The following work was undertaken:
All the bells were lifted
to facilitate refurbishment of the bearings.
All the clappers
were removed, annealed and refaced
then repainted and fitted with new hinge pins, pads and bushes.
Bell no. two was dismantled, an additional insulation pad was
fitted to improve its hanging radius and the crown staple and
clapper were extended.

John Hollis
1924-2005
The
bellringers are very sad to report the death of John Hollis. He
died in hospital from a heart attack after a major operation.
John
started ringing when he retired from the Royal Navy and was a member of
Westbourne tower. He came regularly to Holy Trinity, Bosham on
practice nights. He was an excellent teacher and many young
ringers have benefitted from his instruction in both towers.
Three
years ago he became a member of Bosham tower and rarely missed Sunday
ringing. He also made himself available for weddings.
His
funeral service was held at St John the Baptist, Westbourne on Friday
11th November. The church was full with many people
standing. Most of Bosham's ringers attended and joined with
Westbourne's ringers both before and after the service as a tribute to
him.

George
Smith, a former ringing master and friend of us all died on Sunday 24th
July aged 91.
George had
rung at Bosham for more years than most of us remember and started
following the involvement of his children. Although his family moved
away
and rang less often, George and his wife Ros continued.
George was
an inspiration to us all with his energy, enthusiasm, commitment and as
was mentioned at his funeral by his eldest son Tony, his smile.
George was
ringing for Sunday service - as he always did - when he collapsed, he
died later in the day.
Our sympathy and prayers
are with his family.
We shall miss him greatly.
A quarter peal of Plain
Bob Doubles was rung on open bells following the funeral
